The Cossack bridge
The Cossack bridge

The Cossack bridge through the river Monastyrku, in a place of its connection with the Bypass channel, settles down on the right coast of the last. The name of this bridge occurs from the Cossack barracks which have been constructed in 19 century by architect I.D.Chernikom nearby, on quay of the Bypass channel. It is necessary to notice that the Cossack armies as were deployed and in other areas of Petersburg, for example in the middle of 18th century, near to the Semenovsky bridge, on the left coast of Fontanka, there was the settlement of the Don Cossacks called by the Cossack farmstead. It is known, what exactly from this large village the names have received lanes Big Cossack and Small Cossack. But we will return to the Cossack bridge interesting us.

The first crossing here has been constructed in 1832 – 1833, and is primary, till 1875, was called as the Cossack bridge. It was the wooden, four-flying bridge, rigelno-podkosnoj the systems, built under the project of engineer P.P.Bazena. The modern Cossack bridge has been built in 1965, under the project of engineer A.A.Sokolova and architect L.A.Noskova, and became a new ferro-concrete construction balochnoj to a design. The foundations of the Cossack bridge revetted with a granite, serve as a support for flying beams. Granite ladder descents to the bottom circle of quay. The length of the new Cossack bridge has made 27,5 metres, and width – 27 metres.
