The Izmajlovsky bridge
The Izmajlovsky bridge

Located in an alignment of Voznesensky and Izmajlovsky prospectuses, the Izmajlovsky bridge connects itself coast of Fontanka. Going towards city centre on Izmajlovsky it is possible to leave on Garden street, and further the Isaakievsky area, in a return direction the road deduces to Warsaw, not working, to station.

The name to the bridge was given by lejb-guards of the Izmajlovsky regiment which large village was on the left coast of Fontanka.

For the first time the Izmajlovsky bridge has been built in the beginning of 1b70 th years. As a basis for a construction two parallel brick walls which had arch apertures for pass of water have served. That bridge foundations could sustain a high water, round it 14 columns have been hammered powerful wooden piles, and podsypka from rubble should strengthen all this design. Facing of arches, the bases of columns and a parapet which was decorated by colour tiles, has been executed from a white stone. Passing a bridge part consisted of the timbered flooring closed by executioner's blocks "bajdashnogo tesa". In 1738 the new, wooden bridge here has been built. After half a century, in 1788, the Izmajlovsky bridge has been reconstructed on typical at that time to the project inherent in many constant bridges of Fontanka.

In 1861 the Izmajlovsky bridge has undergone again to reconstruction under the project of engineer V.V. Dymmana. Thus its average razvodnoj wooden flight has been replaced luchkovym by the brick arch with granite arches on facades, sidewalks are taken out on pig-iron consoles, and towers and at all – are taken down. The established protective lattices were forged, iron, rather simplified, simple type under the project of architect A.I.Krakau. The length of the bridge has made 72,5 metres, and its width – 15,8 metres. In such kind this oldest construction has remained up to now. However, in view of its unsatisfactory enough condition, the Izmajlovsky bridge has been closed on major repairs, on November, 27th current year. This action at all did not become unexpectedness, after all it has been purposefully planned in the program of major repairs of bridges of Petersburg. The committee on a city accomplishment promises that stoppers because of repair will not arise, and the repaired bridge will be put in operation in August of the next year.
