The Sampsonievsky bridge
The Sampsonievsky bridge

The Sampsonievsky bridge which was with 1918 for 1991 the bridge of Freedom, is located through Big Nevku of St.-Petersburg, and connects itself street of Kuibyshev on Stone island to the Finnish prospectus on the Vyborg party.

The given bridge has received the name from the Sampsonievsky cathedral which is nearby, on the Vyborg party, and in turn, is called so in memory of the Poltava fight which has come true on June, 27th, 1709, in a remembrance day of Saint Sampsonija Strannopriimtsa.

At first, in 1784, here existed naplavnoj the bridge which was called Vyborg. In 1847 on a place of an old construction has arisen new, wooden trinadtsatiproletnyj the bridge which has made at length of 242 metres, and at width – 13 metres. This new structure has received also a new name – the Sampsonievsky bridge.

In 1862 the bridge has been capitally repaired, and in 1871 its full reorganisation in which old piles of the bridge have been used has been made, and its former design is kept. In 1889 trinadtsatiproletnoe the construction has been replaced on semnadtsatiproletnoe, with razvodnoj a part in the centre, thus the length of the bridge remained not changed. Perilnye protections of the Sampsonievsky bridge have been executed from a tree, and a curbstone on support, rectangular section with lanterns, made of pig-iron. In 1908, under the project of the professor of Engineering academy to YEAR Krivosheina, instead of the wooden bridge has been erected a new, metal construction which settled down more low on a current from a former site of the bridge on 60 metres.

In 1918, under laws of revolutionary time, the Sampsonievsky bridge has been renamed into Freedom bridge. New reorganisation of the bridge has happened in 1937 in which course on it has been established new metal razvodnoj flight.
Per 1955-1958 the bridge has been again altered, under the project of engineers of V.V. Demchenko, B.B.Levin and architects L.A.Noskova, V.A.Grushke then it became five-flying, welded metal, and has caught dvukrylyj razvodnoj flight. On both entrances of a structure have been added on one arch flight. Building of new object occurred under the direction of engineer P.V.Andreevskogo. Coastal support of the bridge, descents to water and ferro-concrete arch flying structures have been revetted by a pink granite. Perilnye protections have shown pig-iron lattices, art moulding where the high candelabrums which are looking like pig-iron profilirovannyh racks, came to an end with round holders with fixtures on a circle. It is interesting that this time, the length of the new bridge has made 212 metres that practically on 30 metres less former, 150 years ago the built bridge. It speaks at all a shallowing of Neva, occurrence of granite quays is simple have to a certain extent chained a river channel. But on width the modern bridge has considerably extended, and from initial 13 metres "has grown stout" twice, to 27.

On October, 4th 1991 bridge of Freedom has found the historical name, and again became Sampsonievsky. In the summer of 2000 it has been closed on the next reconstruction at which the road cloth with waterproofing replacement has been repaired, a handrail is restored, fixtures are replaced and mechanisms razvodnogo flight are debugged. Tram ways have been laid on a new method, without cross ties that has allowed to increase speed and to reduce a roar made at movement of cars. Besides, on the bridge the art illumination which has given to this structure special charm has been established. Despite enough great volume of the done works, in November of the same, 2000, the Sampsonievsky bridge has been solemnly opened for movement, and the first on it have passed trams, and an advanced method of a lining of ways, has made their movement so silent that it was not audible behind sounds minifejverka, arranged concerning a holiday.
